SYNOPSIS

We are in the midst of a crisis, the “weightiness” of which many of us ignore.

According to a recent World Health Organization report, more than 1.4 billion adults in the world, 20 years and older, are overweight. Of these overweight adults, over 200 million men and nearly 300 million women are obese.

In the Philippines, 27 out of 100 adults aged 20 years and over are fat. One in four children are classified as obese. Filipino doctors are alarmed. They say that we are on the path towards another kind of malnutrition — obesity.

Cheche Lazaro Presents follows the Filipino battle with the bulge through the interwined lives of a policeman, who joined the Philippine National Police’s weight-loss initiative launched two months ago to lick obesity; a 270-pound college student who was told to lose weight or else die before the age of 30; a 330-pound mother of four, who could no longer carry herself and breathe with ease; and a movie star, who adopted a cave man’s diet and a regimen of punishing exercise to lose almost 100 lbs.

Presented in a quirky, visual, in-your-face style, the documentary tackles the heavy cost of fat in a developing country like the Philippines and gives a prescription through dietician and nutrition expert Dr. Sanirose Orbeta, who shatters myths and misconceptions about weight loss such as giving up rice to lose unwanted pounds.

Fat is costing us too much – from our health to our self-worth. Join Cheche Lazaro as she draws a battle plan against the assault on our waistlines.
